Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Overview

It’s the age-old question every Brisbanite has an opinion on: which side of the river is better – north or south?

In this lively and laughter-filled showdown, a line-up of iconic locals go head-to-head in a battle of wit, pride and hometown loyalty. Two determined teams will face off in a cheeky contest where no suburb is safe from a bit of friendly fire.

From artists and athletes to media personalities and local legends, the stage is set for big opinions, brilliant banter, and a celebration of everything that makes Brisbane... Brisbane! With each side repping their turf with gusto, expect passionate arguments, playful jabs, and the kind of warm-hearted rivalry only this city can deliver.

Whether you’re proudly northside, fiercely southside, or just here for the drama, The Great Debate will have you laughing, cheering, and maybe even questioning your postcode.

The Great Debate is part of Brisbane Festival. Find out more here.
