Acknowledgement of Traditional Custodians

We pay our respects to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ancestors of this land, their spirits and their legacy. The foundations laid by these ancestors give strength, inspiration and courage to current and future generations, both First Nations and non-First Nations peoples, towards creating a better Queensland.

Storytellers

Storytellers is a partnership program between QPAC and Metro Arts designed to realise fresh ideas and foster new voices in theatre. Leveraging both organisations’ strengths in developing original work, this initiative invites First Nations playwrights and physical theatre artists to explore and shape bold new performance concepts.

This program supports emerging to mid-career First Nations artists embarking on the early stages of script and show creation. Guided by experienced industry professionals, participants will engage in a series of workshops and activities aimed at igniting creativity, introducing key elements of theatrical craft, and providing practical tools to develop new work.

Led by renowned dramaturg and director Nadine McDonald-Dowd, five selected artists will develop their ideas over a six-month period. The program begins with an intensive week-long workshop focused on exploring storytelling through a First Nations lens. Participants will then engage in fortnightly workshops facilitated by three established First Nations theatre practitioners and receive regular dramaturgical support through one-on-one check-ins.

The program concludes with a second intensive development week, during which participants will refine their works in collaboration with a director and professional actors/performers. This final phase includes a short rehearsal process, offering valuable insight into the realisation of their theatrical vision.
